Course Introduction

This weekly course is designed to help students prepare for the challenging non-verbal and verbal-reasoning sections of the ISEB and Consortium exams, which comprise 50% and 40% of marks available respectively.  The ISEB and Consortium now both feature new and challenging question types – spatial reasoning such as cube nets, rotations of cuboids, assembling cubes and figure analysis (hole punching) – and cloze verbal reasoning such as shuffled sentences, close synonyms and antonyms and close sentence completion.  It is vital to get used to these different question types, which are not fully covered by online testing platforms.

Course Schedule

The course will teach a different verbal and non-verbal reasoning rule each week, and will aim to complete the entire syllabus of verbal and non-verbal reasoning lessons before assessment.

As well as teaching every VR and NVR rule which will be tested in the entrance exams, the sessions will be fun and engaging

“My daughter has been attending Jacob’s weekly reasoning groups alongside other 11+ peers. She looks forward to the group sessions each week, she is motivated and has made friends. We have found that with a combination of Jacob’s teaching and a group environment her engagement with 11+ preparation has significantly increased.”

Group Leads

Jacob Shephard

The course will be led by Jacob Shephard.  Jacob is a tutor and full-time Education and Exams Advisor who works exclusively with Winterwood.  He has been tutoring in London for over a decade, specialising in English, maths and reasoning tuition for entrance exams in particular.  Jacob is a friendly and engaging tutor, and is keen to make sure his students are regularly making progress and focusing on their work.

Our Cancellation Policy

If you cancel less than two weeks ahead of the start date of the course, the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable to another date or another student.

If you cancel outside of the two week course date, we will happily credit your account to attend a future course.

If you do not show up for a course, you are not eligible for a credit or refund.

Why we charge a cancellation fee

This is to cover the tutors’ reserved time to run a group course, to pay for their time spent pre-planning the class and relevant material, printing fees incurred and the loss of revenue to Winterwood as it is often too late to fill a cancelled space.  More importantly, other students miss out on attending a group.
