Course Introduction

Last year, the 7+ and 8+ exams were the most competitive they have ever been.  Many schools were oversubscribed ed, and the most academically competitive options – such as Westminster and St Paul’s Juniors – required high grades in every subject area tested.

Despite this, we had a very successful year and partly credit this to our system of benchmarks and in-house mock exams and tests, which allowed us to track progress and ascertain what students needed.

Furthermore, this is the last year in which Westminster and St Paul’s Juniors will have a regular 8+ entry point.

Course Schedule

We are offering mock exam papers in English, maths and verbal and non-verbal reasoning for both 7+ and 8+ candidates who will sit the papers relevant to their age group.  These papers will be marked by our in-house entrance exam lead, Jacob Shephard, who will produce a detailed, personalised feedback report which will be shared with you and all Winterwood tutors working with your child, and it will be used to guide their preparation going forward.

  • The 7+ papers are suitable for a child entering Year 2 in September.
  • The 8+ papers are suitable for a child entering Year 3 in September.

“Yes, I feel he found questions which have a verbal component difficult. Either verbal comprehension, or written expression. As the 7+ exams tend to be interdisciplinary (i.e maths will incorporate verbal skills like comprehension or writing verbal number statements) it is important to work on this – it will impact all subjects other than NVR.”

We offer exams geared towards the multiple-choice, reasoning-based exams that students will take for entry to independent schools at 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+.  Our mock exam papers cover English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning for students who will sit the papers relevant to their age group.

These papers will be marked by our in-house entrance exam lead Jacob Shephard, who will produce a detailed, personalised feedback report which will be shared with you and all Winterwood tutors working with your child, and it will be used to guide their preparation going forward. We encourage all exam students to sit our mock exams.

Our Cancellation Policy

If you cancel less than two weeks ahead of the start date of the course, the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable to another date or another student.

If you cancel outside of the two week course date, we will happily credit your account to attend a future course.

If you do not show up for a course, you are not eligible for a credit or refund.

Why we charge a cancellation fee

This is to cover the tutors’ reserved time to run a group course, to pay for their time spent pre-planning the class and relevant material, printing fees incurred and the loss of revenue to Winterwood as it is often too late to fill a cancelled space.  More importantly, other students miss out on attending a group.
