Course Introduction

This short focus group is designed to cover 7+ maths and problem solving.  The group will focus on core questions which will come up on the entrance exams which take place in autumn – for King’s, Westminster and St Paul’s.

Course Schedule

On Day I the group will focus on maths problem solving, and problem solving. This will span 7+ problem solving exercises, for example critical reasoning, spatial reasoning, and maths problems with a significant verbal component.

On Day II the group will focus on 7+ maths essentials – questions testing fractions, money, time, measurement and missing operations. Students will look at real-exam material, and get used to how question types can be presented in exam papers.

The group will be led by Dr Tom Parkinson and Oliver Ford.  Oliver will cover problem solving on Day I, and Tom will cover maths on Day II.

“Winterwood tutors are highly recommended. Their group sessions are perfect for boosting knowledge in the key areas, while kids enjoy the competitive environment. Their tutors are very keen and productive!”

Group Leads

Oliver Ford

Oliver has helped students gain places at schools such as Westminster, St. Paul’s, Highgate, UCS and City of London School Boys, alongside helping them achieve prestigious scholarships at schools like Eton. Oliver has well over 5,000 hours of tutoring experience.  His teaching style is patient and encouraging, he makes learning fun and creates dynamic resources which contextualise learning within topics that his students require for exams.

Dr Tom Parkinson

Tom is Winterwood’s co-founder and overseas the entrance exam cohort.  Tom has been running educational groups for the past decade, and has created several bespoke learning games which he uses in his group classes.  Tom has found that group courses really drive attainment – possible due to the nature of the groups, which are supportive and provide guidance and reassurance, and possible as gameplay is incorporated, which helps to mitigate stress and makes learning fun.  Either way, it works!

Our Cancellation Policy

If you cancel less than two weeks ahead of the start date of the course, the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable to another date or another student.

If you cancel outside of the two week course date, we will happily credit your account to attend a future course.

If you do not show up for a course, you are not eligible for a credit or refund.

Why we charge a cancellation fee

This is to cover the tutors’ reserved time to run a group course, to pay for their time spent pre-planning the class and relevant material, printing fees incurred and the loss of revenue to Winterwood as it is often too late to fill a cancelled space.  More importantly, other students miss out on attending a group.
