This lively and engaging club is designed to help students in year 1 looking ahead to 7+ assessment. With most schools withdrawing the 8+ entry point, 7+ is now the last major intake before 11+ and 13+, and is becoming increasingly competitive.
Course Schedule
This weekly session by Helena Barlow and Dr Tom Parkinson is designed to help students prepare for key aspects of the 7+ which are often overlooked – dictation, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and key topics in maths which will be tested and must be covered – time, money, fractions and geometry.
Each week will cover a single topic, which will be taught in class and reinforced with homework to aid retention. To help keep the group lively and engaging, students will participate in a lively learning game. They will be rewarded with points which they can use to purchase prizes as the course progresses.
As this group is likely to be well-attended, please do confirm your attendance early.
This group runs weekly on Sundays during term time only.

Helena Barlow
Helena is an English Tutor and actress. She began her career as a child actress, playing Rose Granger-Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Harrows – Part 2 (2011). The following year, she starred as young Estella in Mike Newell’s Great Expectations. Helena is a highly sought-after English tutor with over seven years of experience and an outstanding track record of 7+, 11+ and 13+ success, with many students she has taught going on to secure offers and scholarships at leading schools. Drawing on her acting background, Helena brings lessons to life with a dynamic, charismatic teaching style that students genuinely engage with; sessions are targeted, individualised and varied.
Dr Tom Parkinson
Tom is Winterwood’s co-founder and overseas the entrance exam cohort. Tom has been running educational groups for the past decade, and has created several bespoke learning games which he uses in his group classes. Tom has found that group courses really drive attainment – possible due to the nature of the groups, which are supportive and provide guidance and reassurance, and possible as gameplay is incorporated, which helps to mitigate stress and makes learning fun. Either way, it works!
