Course Introduction

Whether you are preparing for 8+ or wanting to hit the ground running in a new school, this course is deigned to get students ready for the transition to year three.

Core year three topics will be identified and addressed. This will allow students to get ahead of classroom learning and assessments, and flourish in year three.

Course Schedule

The course is designed to be fun and engaging. Students will study maths, English and reasoning, and this learning will be supported by a lively game which will allow students to win points and purchase prizes.

  • On Day I – the group will work on maths. The focus will be on topics which are taught in year three – fractions, roman numerals, long multiplication, long division and properties of triangles.
  • On Day II – the group will work on English. The focus will be on building sentences, as year three students are expected to undergo and identify type of words, and to able to recognise and correct mistakes in their own written work.
  • On Day III – we will look at verbal reasoning and problem solving. This will help students to prepare for in-school CAT and InCAS testing.
  • On Day IV – we will cover non-verbal reasoning. We will focus on question types which come up on internal exams  – matrices, similarities, pictures and hidden shapes – which may also recur on 8+ entrance exams or occasional place aptitude tests.
  • On the final day, students will sit an assessment. As well as covering core year three topics, the exam will be structured like an 8+ exam, for students considering this entrance point or occasional place assessments.
