Course Introduction

This four-day group is designed to introduce year five students to the format and expectation of 11+ and 13+ entrance exams. The group will be introduced to Consortium and ISEB pretest content. Each day will focus on a specific subject area, and students will be taught to recognise common questions, and be given instructions on how to work through these in intense timed conditions.

Course Schedule

The group will be split over four days. Each day will focus on a different subject area.

Day I – Maths – we will work through common ISEB and Consortium question types, for example those testing fractions, ratios, percentages, data and geometry. In the afternoon we will address word problems, and work on ordering operations and breaking these down into individual stages.

Day II – English – we will focus on multiple-choice comprehension (essential for all pretests) cloze comprehension, a feature of both exam systems, and different types of text – getting used to fiction, non-fiction, poetry and verse.

Day III – Verbal reasoning – we will look at reasoning in CEM and CAT format, comparable to most Consortium and ISEB material, and the St Paul’s Girls’ pretest. We will work through vocabulary based reasoning, such as make a word, synonyms, antonyms, verbal similarities, verbal analogies, and shuffled sentences.

Day IV – Non-verbal reasoning – we will finish by working on both 2D and 3D non-verbal reasoning, reviewing core 2D question types, and working on cubes, cube nets, and figure recognition. The day will end with a ‘mini mock exam’, providing a snapshot of progress over the four days.

“Thank you, for setting us up to get very helpful boosts at the right times this past term.  You and the team around you made it easy to organise at our end, and simple–and that I’m sure reduces parental stress at the right moment!”

Our Cancellation Policy

If you cancel less than two weeks ahead of the start date of the course, the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable to another date or another student.

If you cancel outside of the two week course date, we will happily credit your account to attend a future course.

If you do not show up for a course, you are not eligible for a credit or refund.

Why we charge a cancellation fee

This is to cover the tutors’ reserved time to run a group course, to pay for their time spent pre-planning the class and relevant material, printing fees incurred and the loss of revenue to Winterwood as it is often too late to fill a cancelled space.  More importantly, other students miss out on attending a group.
