Year 4 May Half-Term Group 24-26 May

Year 4 – Intensive Group Course

(3-days) Saturday 24th – Monday 26th May 2025 

This short, intensive group will cover maths, English, VR and NVR. The group will be led by Laurie Coldwell, a ‘super tutor’ with over a decade of experience of prepping students for entrance exams. This fun, high energy group will focus on aspects of entrance exams which students find particularly troublesome, and will aim to tackle them at an early stage.

• – On Day I – the focus will be English and VR. We will look at cloze comprehension – for the ISEB and Consortium exam -VR make-a-word and ‘word building’ strategies, and the different types of texts students may encounter – poetry, play texts and non-fiction.
• – On Day II – the group will address maths and NVR. We will begin with NVR, reviewing strategies for figure analysis (hole punching) and figure recognition (hidden shapes). The morning will feature a special panel from an NVR expert, who will share strategies and tips. In the afternoon, we will work on strategies for maths word problems and verbal questions.
• – On Day III – we will look at the ‘forgotten rules’ – important aspects of entrance exams which are often overlooked. We will address shuffled sentences, counting cubs, roman numerals and English SPaG.

All students will receive detailed feedback following the course.

The group will feature a fun and engaging learning game, and participants will have the chance to earn points and use them to purchase prizes!
