Year 5 Consortium 11+ Short Course, 25-28 May 2024

This short course is aimed at helping students prepare for the Consortium 11+ exam.

The exam structure recently changed significantly, and this course is aimed at addressing these changes and helping students to prepare for new question types.

The course will follow the below structure:

Day I: Creative Analysis – the creative analysis section of the Consortium assessment is one of the most challenging aspects of the exam. In 2023, girls had to assess seven different sources and answer critical reasoning questions based on this material. Students will be shown techniques which will help with information finding, skim reading, and logical analysis of material.
Day II: English and VR – the new format Consortium exam combines English and verbal reasoning on a single paper. Participants will be shown examples of this paper, and study verbal reasoning question types which came up on this year’s exam.
Day III: Maths Puzzles – this year, many girls cited this as the most challenging section of the exam. Maths puzzles are spatial and involve dragging and dropping objects, using the maths software Geobra. However, certain question types recur which can be prepared for and anticipated.

Day IV: NVR and Numerical Reasoning – girls will also sit a challenging NVR paper which combines 2D and 3D non-verbal reasoning rules. All question types will be covered, along with a short section on numerical reasoning, which is a major aspect of the Consortium maths paper.
The course will finish with a short assessment – covering all four subject areas. Students will be given full feedback and recommendations.

In addition to the taught material, students will play a lively learning game which will help keep them engaged. The course will be led by Dr Tom Parkinson, Winterwood’s co-founder and our most experienced entrance exam specialist. Tom has led Consortium group courses for several years. Last year, girls on his course were offered places at Godolphin and Latymer, South Hampstead, Francis Holland Sloane Square, Francis Holland Regent’s Park, Notting Hill and Ealing as well as Latymer Upper and St Paul’s Girls’.
